Caribbean Work Placement

We met Jake and his parents Steve and Janettes from the United Kingdom last year on our excursion. During the excursion Steve and Janettes mentioned about a work placement program run by the ‘The JCB Academy‘, which Jake attends in the UK.

The academy is very unique and is designed to give students at a young age the opportunity to work closer with industry to develop engineers and business leaders for the future.

Eileen our CEO was excited to know more about the program and how Passion Paradise Adventures could aid in offering Jake a work placement. After some discussions and emails with Jake’s tutor Ms K. Ryan, we agreed to host Jake in April 2015 for a 4 day work placement. The main goal of the placement was to allow Jake to understand what is involved in running a leading tourism company likes ours in the Dominican Republic, which is focussed on providing a true taste of paradise through each PADI Scuba Diving and snorkelling excursions that we run every day.

Knowing April was soon approaching, we worked with the academy and Jake to create an itinerary supervised by Eileen Philp our CEO and Chantel Philp our CFO. The itinerary was actioned packed allowing him to spend time with each of the core teams within our company during the 4 days he was to spend with us.

Jake’s arrived on the 9th of April and we were all very excited to welcome hime aboard. The day started with an introduction to the company, our health and safety procedures and how we work to ensure our guests have an incredible adventure with us from the first moment to the last impression. Thought out the day Jake was introduced to the various teams. Chantel managed to recruit a new member to the entertainment team, which was awesome and i think Jake liked it as well.

Jake’s second day with us, he worked with Joel, who leads our dive team to understand the dive process on board and the various dive sites that we visit each day. The team were excited and Jake managed to also take part in a supervised dive with Joel, who is very good at ensuring one has an amazing underwater adventure.

Jake’s third day with us, he worked with Bobby, who leads our culinary team in preparing an amazing Dominican feast that our guests enjoy each day on Isla Catalina. At the end of the day Jake worked with our boat captain Juma and his team to prepare the boat for the following week. It was great to see everyone working well together.

Jake’s final day with us, he worked with Chantel to take care of the snorkelling guests on board. We were also very excited to welcome his parents, who were there to enjoy paradise, but also test Jake and what he had learnt with us over the placement. Through out the day everyone was taking photos with Jake as they had herd the academy was running a competition for the best selfie during the placement. I am happy to share the following photo that he entered.

We are also very happy to report that his parents had thumbs up by the end of the day and they were thrilled with what he had learnt with us. We were very impressed with his initiative, attention to detail and his desire to learn from the team.

We are thrilled that we did take part in the work placement program run by the academy and we highly recommend anyone in the UK looking at schools and programs for their kids to checkout the academy.

We never say good bye, but till next time and we really feel that Jake experienced the true taste of paradise through our excursions we run every day.
